The well-known Modern Shows® events are a continuation of Showhome, a one-time open house event that began in July 2002 at Lucy’s 1960s home in south east London. Petra Curtis and Lucy combined everything they adored, from Eley Kishimoto home goods and Multi ceramics to 1960s Scandinavian sideboards and chairs that were purchased directly from Danish auctions.

They were inspired to organise a larger event where midcentury dealers and modern designers could come together to sell their work after selling 90% of the curated collection of midcentury and modern furniture in one day.

Since then, the dynamic design-loving team has sourced for prestigious clients like Saatchi & Saatchi, Adform, The Modern House, and tapas brand Brindisa. They have also produced bigger and better shows while giving advice to TV producers, prominent journalists, and prominent collectors, amassing a collection of investment furniture and works of art in the process.

Despite being “the show for modern antiques” rather than a designer brand, Modern Shows was asked to exhibit a Midcentury Modern® Pop Up of more than 20 dealers and designers at Designjunction in 2012 because the Midcentury Modern® trademark has come to represent great style, history, and integrity. It was dubbed “the best thing on the ground floor” when the 2013 Midcentury Modern® design-junction pop-up exhibition followed.

The South Bank and Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway chose Modern Shows to be the 2011 Vintage Festival’s curator of furniture and home goods. Midcentury Modern® and The Midcentury Show have cult followings of midcentury enthusiasts and design lovers who congregate one Sunday a few times a year to feed off their shared love for design at what has been described as “an inspiring museum-style pop up shop” by Max Fraser, The London Design Guide. Both were named the show destination of 2009 by Time Out and a top shop by Stella magazine in 2014.
