News Lucy Fisher

Lucy Fisher has been selected as the new Whitehall editor at the Financial Times. Fisher will join the FT in May after a year as Times Radio’s top political analyst. Sebastian Payne left the Financial Times in December to become the director of center-right research group Onward, and she replaced him. FT editor Roula Khalaf said Fisher was “one of the most astute and intelligent journalists covering British politics today”.

According to the newspaper, Fisher will “cover the stories behind headlines from Westminster, with a particular focus on the Conservative Party and foreign policy” in his new role as Whitehall editor. Additionally, she will co-host the weekly Political Correction podcast and write a monthly column.

“I am delighted to be joining the FT, a publication that I have come to love as a longtime reader,” said Fisher. At such an important time in British politics, I can’t wait to begin this exciting role. I also look forward to working with [political editor] George Parker and the leading reporting team from Westminster.

Fisher was formerly a political reporter, then defense editor of The Times and deputy political editor of The Daily Telegraph before joining Times Radio.

She won the coveted Anthony Howard Award and $25,000 prize in 2013 when she was 24 years old for a 5,000-word essay on a proposal to question reserve MPs. As a result, she worked for The Times, The Observer and the New Statesman for a whole year.

According to her, “working in the news is the best job in the world,” she said in an interview with the Press Gazette in 2019. “Top stories have a real impact on politics. Managing and changing people’s lives for the better is what drives me,” she added.
