News about Lisa Watier

According to Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of Concordia’s John Molson School of Business, “strong women leaders share four common traits: courage, ambition, resilience, and education.” This was said during the graduation ceremony of the Let’s Start Up program, which was held online on September 22.

The Lisa Watier Foundation, Concordia Continuing Education (CCE) and various local organizations have teamed up to offer the Let’s Start Up Program, a free 18-week course that supports female entrepreneurs.

Croteau told 84 graduate students, “I think you all have those qualities. “Starting a business takes a lot of courage, especially during a pandemic.”

In addition to awarding the program’s diplomas to the participants, the event was also the official presentation of the Concordia-Lise Watier Awards Wingspan. Graduates who choose the business path of the Let’s Start Up program will receive a $5,000 scholarship each year.

Starting with the first recipient this year, it will be available for ten years, with a maximum benefit amount of $50,000.

The Lisa Watier Foundation states the purpose of the scholarship is to help recipients by “winging” her business.

Let’s Start Up has been helping women develop confidence and plan for action through specialized training and face-to-face coaching since its inception in 2017. Its ultimate goal is to help people achieve gain financial independence through growing a business, improving job opportunities, or pursuing higher education.

Let’s Start Up 2020 graduate Karina Richer was awarded her first $5,000 grant during the ceremony. Her company Insectes Intrinsekt specializes in the cultivation of edible insects as well as the production of organic fertilizers from their droppings.

Richer noted in his acceptance video: “I am delighted to have won the Concordia-Lise Watier Award Spread the Wings.

During the ceremony, Isabel Dunnigan, vice president of lifelong learning and chief executive officer of CCE, commended Richer’s project. She emphasized his creativity and said that this year’s scholarship will support a specific, clear and concrete project. Dunnigan also congratulated all the graduates.
