Lionel Richie jokingly criticizes Diana Ross for never performing ‘Endless Love’ with him after 37 years

Lionel Richie jokingly criticizes his old friend Diana Ross for never accepting his requests to perform live with him on stage.

The duo recorded the song “Endless Love” in 1981 and Lionel earned a nomination for Best Original Song at the Oscar Awards 1982. The song, which was written for the film of the same name, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

While performing a recent show on his current concert tour, Lionel talked about how Diana has been turning down his requests to perform the song live again for 37 years.

“There is a song I want to do. And for 37 years I have done everything I can to have Ms. Diana Ross appear on this stage right here,” Lionel said (via The Messenger). “For thirty-seven years I have tried to call Ms. Ross on the phone, but it was clear to me, with full disclosure, it was clear to me when I said, ‘She has told me ‘No’ for 37 years.”

Lionel told the audience that she would not be there that night. She joked: “What did you think she was going to do? Appear tonight?… The woman is not coming.

Lionel also criticized Diana for giving Beyonce’s audience a surprise performance recently.

“She’s there singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Beyoncé,” he said. “Make me angry.”

Lionel recently had to apologize to fans after a concert was canceled an hour later than scheduled.
