Everything you need to know about the role of Lashana Lynch in Roald Dahl’s musical Matilda.
Lashana Lynch plays Jennifer Honey, a kind teacher who encourages Matilda’s imagination, in Roald Dahl’s musical Matilda. Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull’s niece and a teacher at Crunchem Hall, is known for her kind and shy nature. Miss Trunchbull became Miss Honey’s primary carer when her father, Magnus Honey, passed away at the age of forty of unknown cause. According to Matilda (the book), Miss Trunchbull despises her brother-in-law Magnus and intends to kill him. In the novel, Dahl gives no additional reason for his death, which authorities rule out as suicide.
Miss Honey, who witnessed Miss Trunchbull’s oppression in her youth, took pity on Matilda and began to care for the child. She was the only adult who recognized Matilda’s high IQ and encouraged her to study and pursue other intellectual interests. Miss Honey eventually adopted Matilda in the book, and in the 1996 film Matilda, she became the principal of Crunchem Hall Primary School. Her father, Magnus, was a famous doctor, but her mother’s name is unknown.
Magnus needed someone to find Miss Honey when her mother died when she was two years old in 1969. Miss Trunchbull, her mother’s half-sister, burst into her life and turned it into a living nightmare. Trunchbull seems to have twisted in front of Miss Honey’s father so that he would know nothing of the torment Miss Honey was going through. Miss Honey wanted to tell Magnus that, but she was terrified of Miss Trunchbull.
Miss Trunchbull received Magnus’ property and assets upon his death, leaving 5-year-old Honey to fend for herself. Fortunately, she escaped the dictatorship and started living in a modest wooden house in the woods. Years later, she was hired as a teacher at Crunchem Hall.
Is Miss Honey a lesbian?
Some theories suggest that Miss Honey’s character is a lesbian because she doesn’t have a man in her life and because she lives in a log cabin in the woods, although Dahl never said this. This. According to Lashana Lynch, who played the role in Roald Dahl’s musical Matilda, Miss Honey is a lesbian icon for many in their 20s.
She told EW while promoting Roald Dahl’s musical Matilda:
“I didn’t know anything until I read some comments on social media and thought, ‘Oh my God, this is a surprise for me’.”
Meanwhile, the British actress, who recently appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Woman King, will appear in the Bob Marley biopic. The highly anticipated biopic, funded by Paramount Pictures, will cast her as Rita Marley, Bob Marley’s wife.
