The Calling, David E. Kelley’s next TV series, premieres on Peacock this week, with a fresh take on detective thrillers with Kelley’s twist at the top. This series from the premium manufacturer should not be questioned. Kelley has showcased her talents on shows like Picket Fences, Big Little Lies and Ally McBeal. The call will launch on November 10, 2022 at 3 a.m. EST.
This new Peacock show, originally called Missing, is based on Israeli writer Dror Mishani’s book series about detective Avraham Avraham. This eight-volume season is said to be based on the first novel in the Avraham Avraham series, The Missing File. Jeff Wilbusch, Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson and Michael Mosley star on the show.

Trailer The Calling: Still the same old context, completely different thinking
With a location and palette that emulate many of the genre’s great works, The Calling is almost indistinguishable from hardcore detective movies and series. Also, this example seems to be comparable to other examples done in this thread. The main character, however, is different. This show shows a completely different Avi Avraham, spiritual and sensitive, in contrast to the drunk, traumatized middle-aged investigators who are somewhat repressed outside of society. His reason is often overshadowed by his feelings for his victims, and he treats every case as if it were his own. This distinguishes him from other types of investigators portrayed in popular culture.
Wilbusch, who was born in Israel and will play the role in this installment, defined the character as follows:
“Avi is a complex character… His mission is to solve missing people and murder cases with his extraordinary observational abilities. He also cares about his colleagues, including enthusiastic rookie detective Janine Harris (Juliana Canfield, Succession), sarcastic veteran officer Earl Malzone (Michael Mosley, Ozark), and supportive supervisor. his assistant, Captain Helen Davies (Karen Robinson, Schitt’s Creek).
Wilbusch also explains how Kelley infuses the text with his signature dark humor, often including Avi in the process. Despite that, Avi is a complicated character with a possibly unknown background. The teaser also alludes to Avi’s tendency to take cases too seriously and personally, emphasizing how this case will push the investigator off limits. The summary of the show is as follows:
“The Calling follows NYPD detective Avraham Avraham, whose faith in humanity acts as his superpower when uncovering the truth. Avraham, driven by a strong sense of spirituality and religious ideals, is forced to judge her own person when a seemingly ordinary investigation is turned upside down.”
Barry Levinson is also an executive producer on The Calling. He is also said to have directed several episodes. The beautiful music in the trailer was created by Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro.
