Allegation of copyright infringement
Famous scriptwriter and director Jyoti Kapoor has accused Kunal Kohli of shamelessly copying his script for the film ‘Phir Se’. The allegation was significant because Kohli, as both director and writer, was involved in a copyright infringement controversy. Despite this, Kohli tried to justify himself by mentioning his collaboration with other writers, Renuka Kunzru and Shibani Bathija, without any problem. However, the highest judicial authority, the Supreme Court, recognized the similarity between Kapoor’s script and the plot of ‘Phir Se’, and supported his claims. The Supreme Court has ruled that Kunal Kohli will have to pay a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and give credit to the story of the film. This entire matter was resolved after eight months of legal battle.
