In response to detractors decrying the appearance of the “Sex and the City” cast in the upcoming revival of the popular series, Kristin Davis clapped her hands in response.
Critics have focused the debate on the age and looks of the cast ever since photos from the set of “And Just Like That…” first surfaced. Davis is quite simply tired of it.
Kristin Davis declared criticism of the “SATC” cast’s looks a “shock”.
“Everybody wants to express their opinion – for or against – about our faces, our hair and other aspects of us. The Sunday Times quoted her as saying the stress levels were staggering and that the paparazzi would try to take ‘bad pictures’ of celebrities while filming.
The revival focuses on the lives of the actor and her two co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon, as they negotiate relationships as stylish middle-aged women. All three are in their 50s. Many commentators focused on Nixon’s gray hair on the show or the out-of-date wrinkles they noticed on the actors’ faces, rather than highlighting how each star beautifully handles aging.
Davis said in an interview with TODAY last week that she and Parker are experiencing a “media loss incident” due to critical comments. She also spoke about this in an interview with The Sunday Times, admitting that this negativity upsets her.
“I feel angry and I don’t want to be angry all the time, so I don’t look at it, I just know it’s there,” she said. The single mother of two recalls how tabloids described her as “pear-shaped”; she didn’t find it flattering at the time.
I can’t avoid it, so it creates a good amount of stress for me. I feel the same now. But I also felt like – I’ll put it bluntly – “Y… you.” Come here and do it better, people. Do you understand what I’m saying? What are you doing, how? She speaks.
Davis emphasized that she’s happy to be a part of the reboot because it exposes an age group that is often ignored by Hollywood, despite the criticism the group receives about its appearance.
“I feel like people have this feeling (when you hit middle age) that you’re done, finished with your worldview, friends and relationships. “No no no!”
Although Willie Garson, who played Carrie’s BFF Stanford Blatch, passed away from cancer in September at the age of 57, Davis had a great time filming the revival, which was heartbreaking nonetheless. According to Davis, when she first saw him on stage, she didn’t know he was sick.
