Krishna Kapoor was born on 30 December 1930 in Rewa State, Madhya Pradesh, India. She was Prithviraj Kapoor’s cousin as she was the daughter of Prithviraj’s mother’s brother. She married Raj Kapoor at the age of 16. She was the grandmother of Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.

Krishna had been complaining of breathlessness for the last few years of her life. Recently, due to this, he had to be admitted to the hospital as well. He died of a heart attack on 1 October 2018 at around 5 am. She was 87 years old at the time of her death.
