“I feel like it might be awkward,” Kelly said. “It depends on who finished it or who it is. “It’s situational.”
The 51-year-old rapper, however, had a different point of view.
“I could definitely be friends with an ex,” Common said. “I have been friends with many of my exes and they have been long relationships. Because most of them have been pretty good.”
However, he admitted that the transition from lovers to friends is not an easy process.
“I mean, we went through things at the beginning of the breakup,” Common explained, “but then once we hit our stride, it’s like, we’re good people, we’re great people.”
Common then asked if Kelly had ever stayed friends with an ex, and she responded with a long sigh before answering, “No.”
“Here’s the thing: I’m not friends,” said Kelly, who finalized a messy divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022.
“I only have a couple where I’m like ‘hard pass,'” Kelly continued. “A couple of them are great people, there’s nothing wrong with them. If we met, we would be totally friendly. But that’s the difference.”
In a recent interview, Kelly addressed the possibility of remarrying.
