Just before announcing to the world that she was receiving cancer treatment, Kate Middleton reportedly had a private meeting with her father-in-law, King Charles III, to discuss health issues.
During an interview with PEOPLE, Author Sally Bedell Smith revealed details about the bond between the Princess and the King.
Both Kate Middleton and King Charles III were recently diagnosed with undisclosed forms of cancer. At the same time, they also seek treatment. Health struggles are one of the things they have in common. The duo was reportedly even able to meet at the hospital while undergoing their treatments separately.
Smith said King Charles III has “always” had a good relationship with Kate Middleton. “She’s interested in artistic things,” Smith said. “And she appreciates art and culture, so she has an affinity with the King because of that. Obviously, they have this in common and can only contribute them. she is a source of tranquility and comfort for both of us.”
Another source revealed that King Charles III’s treatments are going well. The royals are currently planning an eventful summer without “committing to anything” and that everything will be “subject to the advice of doctors at the time.”
Kensington Palace also shared that King Charles had “begun a schedule” of regular treatments. During this time, doctors have advised him to postpone his public duties.

Shortly after Kate Middleton made her announcement, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson revealed that King Charles III was “very proud” of her.
“[He is] “I am very proud of Catherine for her bravery in speaking out as she did,” the spokesperson said. King has remained in close contact with his “beloved daughter-in-law” over the past few weeks.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla “will continue to offer their love and support to the entire family at this difficult time.”
In her announcement, Kate Middleton revealed why she has chosen to reveal details about her health. “As you can imagine, this has taken time,” she said. “It has taken me time to recover from major surgery to be able to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken a long time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them.”
Middleton added that she and Prince William want to reassure the children that she will be okay.
