Following the news that Kate Middleton has cancer, the princess and Prince William have broken their silence.
According Time, A Kensington Palace spokesperson said the Prince and Princess of Wales were “hugely” moved by the kind messages. This includes those in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world following Middleton’s announcement.
“They are very touched by the public’s warmth and support,” the spokesperson told Time of Kate Middleton and Prince William. “And we appreciate your understanding of her request for privacy at this time.”
Kate Middleton announced on Friday, March 22, that she was diagnosed with cancer following her abdominal surgery in mid-January.
“Therefore, my medical team recommended that I undergo preventive chemotherapy treatment,” Middleton shared. “And now I’m in the early stages of that treatment.”
“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing our best to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
The Princess of Wales also highlighted the importance of privacy at this difficult time. “We hope she understands that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment.”
“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I hope to return when I can. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
Kate Middleton did not reveal what type of cancer she is currently fighting. She added that it has taken him time to explain everything to her and Prince Williams’ three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
“As I have told you; I’m doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirit.”
Prince Williams’ brother Harry and Meghan Markle wish Kate Middleton the best amid cancer battle
Among those who have sent well wishes to Kate Middleton are Prince Williams’ brother, Harry, and Meghan Markle.
“We wish health and healing for Kate and her family,” the couple’s statement said. “And I hope they can do it privately and peacefully.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s statement comes just after reports revealed that Markle approached Middleton “through a back channel” earlier this month. “She’s really worried about Kate’s health,” author Tom Quinn said of Markle.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not spoken to Prince William and Kate Middleton. The estrangement began after they stepped down from royal duties in 2020. They have since moved to California.
The statement was released after King Charles III, who is also battling an undisclosed form of cancer, and Queen Camilla spoke about the Kate Middleton news. They are reportedly “very proud” of the Princess of Wales for “their bravery of her speaking out as she did.”
King Charles III also stated that he remains in “close contact with his beloved daughter-in-law.”
