Kate McKinnon is back Saturday night liveAnd the December 16 episode began with the opening monologue!
The 39-year-old comedian Barbie the star was there a long time ago SNL fan favorite before leaving in 2022. He returned for the most recent episode alongside musical guest Billie Eilish.
During the opening monologue, he joked about why he left the late-night show behind, talked about his summer blockbuster, and sang a song with some special guests.

Kate opened the monologue by reintroducing herself.
“I used to work here and now I’m back at my old job,” he said. “This is strange. It’s so strange to be doing the monologue. I don’t really like speaking with my own voice. That’s why I got into this.”
As to why she left SNL, joked that his “skin was reacting badly to the prosthetics.” She added that her experience with the opening monologue was very specific: “I had never been myself in a monologue before. “I usually played the role of a monster next to an attractive person.”
On the subject of Barbie, he joked about his role. “I played the character called Weird Barbie. I walked in the first day and they were like, ‘Oh my God, you look perfect.’ I thought, ‘These are my clothes.'”
Saying she was “forced to sing,” Kate pulled out a small piano and gave a Christmas song a spin.
“I’ll be home for Christmas. I live nearby, it’ll be easy for me. Give me figs and make me wigs. Reactivate my ID,” he sang. Later he was joined by his partner SNL Students Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig will close the monologue with another song.
