He was born on 21 September 1980 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. Her maternal grandfather Raj Kapoor named her Siddhima, which later changed to Kareena. He became interested in acting at a very young age. Her father was against her decision to become an actress while her mother fully supported her, which later led to a fight between her parents and their eventual separation. Then his mother raised him and his sister Karisma Kapoor. In 2007, her parents started living with their daughters again. Due to hard work, he achieved a lot of success in his acting career in a short time.

After being in a relationship for a few years, she married actor Saif Ali Khan on 16 October 2012. The couple have a son, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, born on 20 December 2016.

In an interview, Kareena shared the story behind naming her son Taimur. He told that the name ‘Taimur’ was inspired by Saif Ali Khan’s close childhood friend who lived in Mumbai. Kareena further told that Saif was very fond of this name, which is why he decided to name his first son Taimur. Kareena said in the interview,
When we came up with the name… Saif actually said… He grew up with a neighbor friend, and he always liked his name and his name was Taimur, so he said, ‘You know, if If I have a son, he was my first friend. I would like to name him ‘Taimur’, and that’s exactly how Taimur was named, because he was Saif’s first friend when he was living here in the city.
On 21 February 2021, she gave birth to her second son at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Kareena and Saif later named their second son Jahangir Ali Khan, also known as Jeh.

She did her schooling from Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai and Welham Girls School, Dehradun. Later he took admission in Mithibai College, Mumbai for further studies. After schooling, he did a three-month summer course in microcomputers from Harvard Summer School, USA. She then returned to India and enrolled at the Government Law College, Mumbai to study law, but left college after a year to pursue a career in acting. He then enrolled at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to receive training in acting. He received training under the guidance of Kishore Namit Kapoor.
