During his school days, he watched Ian Hewitson Hugh’s TV show Cooking Adventures after his school hours and got inspired to take up cooking. He was 13 years old when he started cooking. He learned cooking from his mother and was influenced by his Fijian and Indian heritage. In 2018, Narayan relocated to Perth, Australia. He was pursuing his master’s degree when he was selected for MasterChef Australia 13. Justin stopped his studies to be a part of the show.

On 13 July 2021, he became the winner of the show, defeating fellow contestants Kishwar Chaudhary and Pete Campbell. Narayan won the prestigious MasterChef trophy along with a prize money of US$250,000 (Rs 1.86 crore).

After winning the show Justin said,

I feel incredibly honored and humbled to have that title and to be able to win this competition. I’ll take a week to really process it and figure it out, and then I’ll write you an email, and let you know how I feel.

During an interview, Justin shared his experience on the show and said,

It’s a very humbling experience and I’m extremely honored to be a part of it. I’m going to be a sponge and try to enjoy it as much as I can.”

Later, he wrote on Instagram,

Find people who believe in you. Back yourself up. Work hard and hopefully you’ll surprise yourself! Whoever is reading this, I love you.”
