Jayson Tatum’s level dipped during Game 3 of the Celtics’ playoff game against the Heat, raising questions about his ability to lead the team to glory.
Tatum responded magnificently in Game 4, scoring 31 points in Celtic’s series tiebreaker. With momentum on his side and that of his team, Tatum hopes that 2022 will deliver NBA Championship glory.
Off the court, Jayson Tatum has been known to post photos of his son Deuce. Like his mother, Jayson welcomed a baby boy shortly after graduating from high school.
Jayson’s mother, Brandy Cole, was featured in a Mother’s Day post on Tatum’s Instagram page. “I love you mom,” Jayson wrote.

Jayson Tatum was born in St. Louis, Missouri in early March 1998, the son of Brandy Cole and Justin Tatum. Brandy passed up a volleyball scholarship to raise Jayson, while Justin enrolled at St. Louis University, where he played basketball.
Cole moved out of his mother’s house when Tatum was six months old. He bought a two-bedroom house in St. Louis but did not have enough money to furnish the house.
Brandy and Jayson slept in the same bed for several years as she struggled to earn enough money for her needs. Cole had a lot on her plate: bills, a child to raise, a part-time job, and an education at the University of Missouri.
“There were many nights where I would come home and he was already asleep,” Cole said. ESPN. “It was really difficult, but it was what I felt I had to do for both of us.”
Unfortunately, Brandy missed out on some milestones in Jayson’s life. “I remember one day my mom called me and told me that Jayson was crawling for the first time. I just broke down and cried,” she added.
If, for some reason, no one could take care of Jayson, Cole would walk him to class. She continued:
“I remember a teacher told me something about it. I told him, ‘I pay tuition like everyone else. You are not interrupting the class. As long as I held him, Jayson was fine.”
Taytum described walking Cole to class as boring and “pretty awful”. One day, the duo came home to find a foreclosure notice on the front door. cole said whitening report that he felt like a failure; Jayson wanted to help, but he didn’t know how. “He was only 11 years old,” he said.
However, as he had done countless times before, Cole found a way: He applied for a loan modification and kept the house. She said:
“I was always so proud to have our own home. When you’re a kid, you don’t have to worry about packing up your room and moving in with your grandmother. It was a matter of pride: ‘I’m going to do this. I’m not going to become a statistic.’”
Cole supported his son’s basketball dream and continues to do so today.

While Cole was studying for his law degree, Jayson flipped through some of his real estate law books and decided that law was not for him. “I want to play basketball,” Tatum told Cole. “He works very hard,” she would reply.
Tatum worked hard and expressed pride in wanting to become a basketball player. When his teacher told him to choose a “realistic profession”, an enraged Cole stormed into the school to confront the person who was asking Jayson to change his dream. cole said whitening report:
“It wasn’t, like, a two-way conversation. I said, ‘Ma’am, with all due respect, if you ask him a question and he answers, I don’t think it’s appropriate to tell him that’s something he can’t do when I’m at home telling him anything. he can dream it is possible.’ ”
As the NBA Draft approached, Cole couldn’t help but count down the days until Tatum would achieve the dream he had fiercely and lovingly fostered. “I mean, how many people can say there is a finite number of days left before their dream comes true?” Cole said.
After Jayson became the youngest player in Boston Celtic history to reach 5,000 career points, Cole posted the following tweet in celebration: “At 23, 32-day-old Jayson Tatum just became the youngest player in Celtics history to reach 5,000 career points. That is my baby”.
“Mom is proud of me, that’s all that matters”, Tatum tweeted. Cole keeps Tatum on his toes by threatening not to watch his game if he plays poorly. “She’ll say, ‘If you’re not going to be aggressive, let me know. I’ll turn the TV off,’” Jason told Sage Steele about ESPN.
Cole is proud of Jayson’s athletic accomplishments, but still wants him to complete his education. She said ESPN:
“Coach K won’t retire your jersey until you graduate. That’s a big thing for me. A lot of Duke guys come back and get their title. I told him, it doesn’t matter how long it takes. He has seen how hard I have worked.”

Justin Tatum was always around during Jayson’s childhood. Jayson and his dad talked often, and when Justin went to play in the Netherlands, Cole took the boy to Europe to see his dad.
Tatum became one of Jayson’s main trainers when he returned from the Netherlands. Justin said he recognized Jayson’s potential when he became a consistent scorer against older teams.
As Jayson got older, his relationship with his father became strained: Justin never seemed impressed with Jayson’s accomplishments. While other parents congratulated his children, Justin seemed oblivious to Jayson.
“I could have 40 (points) and he would never clap,” Jayson said. “He just sat there. He was leaving, like he wasn’t going to see him after the game.” Justin’s attitude inadvertently pushed Jayson to work harder.
“I would go to the gym, thinking if I do this, if I get 50 points, maybe that’s enough,” Jason said. ESPNby Sage Steele. “Honestly, that got me going.”
Perhaps Justin was upset that Jayson refused to join him at Christian Brothers College High School, where Justin was named coach in 2013. Jayson defied expectations by staying at Chaminade Prep. “It was difficult because obviously I wanted to play for him,” Jayson said. “And he wanted to train me.”
Jayson said that Justin “understood that it was better for me to stay.” Tatum told Steele that he and Justin are close now, and he appreciates how his desire to make Justin proud took him to greater heights. However, Jayson vowed to raise Deuce differently:
“Honestly, my dad and I didn’t do normal father-son things. It was basketball or… I’m sorry. It was always basketball or going to the hairdresser. That’s something I’ve always told myself that I’m going to help my son (and show him) how to do it differently.”
Brandy instilled in Jayson the value of giving back to society
Brandy Cole decided to make Jayson a star both on and off the court. Tatum wrote in Players’ Tribune that Cole got him involved in volunteer work:
“Mom got me involved in volunteer work, helping out at a homeless shelter and mentoring young student-athletes in our town. She would go to their practices and games, talk to them about the problems they were facing at school.”
After joining the NBA, Jason challenged the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis to organize a supply drive to help hurricane-ravaged clubs in Florida and Houston. He promised to host a luncheon for the winner, who happened to be The Riverview Gardens club.
Jayson made good on his promise by traveling to St. Louis for a day off in preseason. “For these kids to come together and do something positive, that’s great for St. Louis and for them,” Tatum said. justin said Post-shipment from St. Louis:
“This is one of the gyms that helped elevate who he is right now. See him come back and give back like he always wanted. These children, who were not yet born, are sitting up and calling out his name.”
Jayson and Brenda planned to start a non-profit organization to support single mothers. Tatum created the Jayson Tatum Foundation to help young people achieve their dreams. “Our goal is for your youth to positively influence their peers, neighborhoods, communities, and generations in many ways,” the foundation’s website reads.
In 2021, Tatum hosted the first Jayson Tatum Foundation Charity Golf Tournament in St. Peters, Missouri to raise money for his cause.

justin said The St. Louis Curator that he wanted to be there for Jaycob and Kayden since he wasn’t always present in Jayson’s life. He said:
“I want to be dominant in their lives. I thought, whenever I have a son or a daughter, you will always know me for the rest of your life, and I will do everything I can to help you. That is what I have learned the most, because this is my heart. It would stop beating if I didn’t see them.”
