He traveled to North America after being drafted by the Predators and played his first professional season with the Hampton Roads Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). With a 36-17-4 record in his first season, he was named ECHL Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year, and was also named to the All-Rookie and First All-Star teams. He spent most of the next three seasons with Nashville’s top minor league club, the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals.
