Kyler Murray is an American football player for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. Murray first played college football for the Texas A&M Aggies before transferring to the Oklahoma Sooners. In 2018, he won the Heisman Trophy for being the best college football player in the country.
Murray also displayed exceptional talent in baseball when he played college baseball at Texas A&M and the University of Oklahoma. Despite his insistence that he wanted to focus on football, the Oklahoma A’s drafted Murray during the 2018 MLB draft. Kyler Murray was born on August 7, 1997 to Kevin Murray and Misun Henderson. During his college years, Kevin displayed a talent for baseball and soccer. In 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 11th round of the draft. He played one season with the Brewers’ rookie team before joining Texas A&M to focus on football.
Kevin experienced incredible success as a quarterback for Texas A&M, twice being named a second team All-American. When he left the team, Murray was the most successful quarterback in team history. Unfortunately, a nagging knee injury discouraged NFL teams from signing him. He had two brief spells with the San Francisco 49ers and the Calgary Stampeders before retiring.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, the star NFL quarterback revealed that Kevin taught him the fundamental basics of the game. “He taught me how to throw the ball when I was 7 years old,” Kyler said. “I definitely wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him teaching me soccer.”
Kevin makes sure that all the work he does stays behind the scenes, as he has no intention of sharing the spotlight with his son. Kevin rarely attended Kyler’s college games, and when he did, he avoided the glare of the cameras. Celebrity head coach Jackie Sherrill said USA Today who once urged Kevin to show more public support for his son, but Kevin refused. Jackie said:
“I told him: ‘When your son leaves the field, it would be good for him to see his dad.’ He told me: ‘My son knows what our relationship is.’
Kyler regularly shows love and appreciation for his Korean roots.
Most people are shocked when they find out that Kyler is of Korean descent. However, attentive observers know that he regularly pays tribute to his Korean roots. In late 2018, Kyler donned a black dragon-print kimono jacket. Kyler’s mom, Misun, told him ASAMNews that Kyler deliberately chose that jacket because he wanted to show his love for his mother’s culture. She said:
“When we saw the jacket, it was like, ‘I have to have it.’ Because our goal is to represent our Asian culture. That subtle statement…it seemed like a strong statement, but it’s unbelievable.”
