Why was James May hospitalized?
May’s car crashed into a wall while filming a drag race with Jeremy Clarkson for The Grand Tour, breaking a rib. May and Clarkson had to drive their demonstration cars down a tunnel towards a rock wall at the Norwegian naval station to take on the challenge. On the other hand, the lights in the tunnel only come on when the vehicles are accelerating, giving drivers less than five seconds to react if they don’t have enough space. May seemed to realize this too late as he pressed the brakes before hitting the wall.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and helped May get to the hospital, and the show continued to shoot without him.
According to one person who spoke to The Sun,
“At first it all seemed very worrying. Jeremy and Richard were worried about their friend so an ambulance quickly arrived. As with any large-scale production operation, paramedics are on hand in case something serious happens, as they do here.”
According to the source, James was hit hard on the head and is currently feeling discomfort in his back and neck. The Grand Tour was created by May and Clarkson, as well as Richard Hammond, James May and Andy Wilman. The film premiered on November 18, 2016 and received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences.
