He recorded his first major league hit on July 26, 2013, off Pirates pitcher Pittsburgh, Jeff Locke. On July 31, 2013, he hit his first career home run in a game against the New York Mets.
Additionally, on July 31, 2014, the Marlins traded him, Francis Martes, Colin Moran, and a compensatory draft pick to the Houston Astros in exchange for Enrique Hernandez, Jarred Cosart, and Austin Wates.
