club career

Ivica started playing football in 1996 for local team NK Marsonia, where he had two successful seasons until he was signed by Hertha BSC in 1998. He did not play much there and returned to Marsonia the following season, where he won the Croatian Second League. He joined his team and was promoted to the first division.

He moved to NK Zagreb in 2001, where he made 28 appearances and scored 21 goals while helping his team win the title. The following year he changed teams and signed for Dinamo Zagreb, where he accumulated 16 goals in 27 games and rose to the top of the Croatian First League.
