‘Hunger Games’ Author Suzanne Collins Gives ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ Her Seal of Approval

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds and the Snakes Its theatrical release is approaching and author Suzanne Collins is giving it her seal of approval.

The letter began: “When the WGA strike concluded, I was able to see the final assembly of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesand I am delighted to recommend it.”

Suzanne continued: “The book was an attempt to explore the state of nature debate through the story of the young President Snow as the veils were lifted on the origin of the Hunger Games, which were not only designed to punish the districts but also to remind the audience of the essential nature of the human being. And I need to start with a huge thank you to everyone involved in making this film. They have done an incredible job bringing this story to life!

She also admitted to being “a little nervous” before seeing the film, but her anxiety “faded away” from the beginning of Francis’s adaptation.

“He takes control of the piece with such confidence, leading the viewer into a dynamic and visually stunning telling of the story,” Suzanne wrote.

The author also praised producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, as well as the film’s writers, music department, designers and, of course, its “sensational” cast.

“We have a wonderful ensemble led by beautifully layered performances from our conflicted serpent, Tom Blyth, and our siren-voiced songbird, Rachel Zegler, with fabulous performances from Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andres Rivera, Fionnula Flanagan and Jason Schwartzman. The entire group pulls characters off the page and embodies their complicated, soulful, hungry selves with intelligence, compassion and style,” she wrote.

Suzanne concluded her letter with a message to fans that read: “On screen and off, The Hunger Games does not exist without an audience. Thank you to those of you who read the books, watched the movies, and continued the journey we began years ago in District 12. I really appreciate being able to travel with all of you.”
