Hogwarts Legacy’s Map Size: How Big Hogwarts Legacy Really Is

One of the best parts about Hogwarts Legacy is that it permits students to explore Hogwarts, the surrounding Highlands, and the general mysteries of the wizarding universe in an open-world fashion – but what’s the actual size of the map? It can be hard to gauge such a metric in-game, especially with how busy the fifth-year protagonist is throughout their first term at Hogwarts. Between learning new magic, helping out their fellow peers, and of course saving the school from an ever-growing threat, players might not have the time to take in Hogwarts Legacy‘s actual map size.

Determining Hogwarts Legacy‘s map size can become even more confusing when factoring in the various modes of transportation available to players. Brooms and mounts make traversing the map a breeze, and they can certainly put the world in perspective as students soar through the skies on a speedy broomstick or one of the game’s majestic flying mounts. Those who value efficiency over immersion can use the handy Floo Powder network, which allows for convenient fast travel (although the Floo Flame lady won’t bother new players nearly as much). However, the actual size of Hogwarts Legacy‘s map can be equally surprising as it is eye-opening.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Map Size Is Relatively Small

According to measurements from PowerPyx, Hogwarts Legacy‘s map is 2.95 square miles. It’s certainly not the most expansive RPG map out there, especially when comparing it to the likes of Skyrim or the recent Assassin’s Creed games. However, Hogwarts Legacy‘s map size redeems itself through its dense nature, which makes it feel much larger than it actually is. Explorable caves, villages, and camps can be found at practically every turn – and the iconic Hogwarts castle itself contains countless rooms, hidden passages, and secrets that warrant hours of exploration, despite taking up a very small space on the map.

Every Region In Hogwarts Legacy’s Map

Hogwarts Legacy's castle under a full moon, with its windows illuminated and an owl flying above.

Despite the size of its map, Hogwarts Legacy features 16 distinct regions for players to explore:

  • North Ford Bog
  • Forbidden Forest
  • Hogsmeade Valley
  • North Hogwarts Region
  • Hogwarts Castle
  • South Hogwarts Region
  • Hogsmeade Village
  • Hogwarts Valley
  • Feldcroft Region
  • South Sea Bog
  • Coastal Cavern
  • Poidsear Coast
  • Marunweem Lake
  • Cragcroftshire
  • Manor Cape
  • Clagmar Coast

Though these regions don’t differ much in terms of environment or terrain, they each pose a unique set of enemies, challenges, and gameplay experiences. For example, players will need to explore each of these locations to find all Field Guide Pages in Hogwarts Legacy, but they’re each worth exploring for more than just that reason. Merlin Trials, Collection Chests, and Demiguise Statues are scattered throughout each of the 16 regions, and even those not interested in obtaining collectibles should find something to occupy themselves with as they meet locals and pick up exciting side quests.

While Hogwarts Legacy’s map size is not numerically on par with those of other open-world RPGs, it’s filled to the brim with activities, which gives the impression that it is just as big. Hogwarts is itself a world of its own, housing no shortage of fun secrets and hidden things to do, but the tightly-knit expanse that lies beyond the castle walls fleshes out the magical experience even further. It may be true that Hogwarts Legacy‘s map is only 2.95 square miles in size, but it packs an undeniable punch that’ll keep players exploring for hours on end.
