Disney: All the Disney Princesses, Ranked By Their Independence

Over the years, Disney has made about a dozen princess movies. These films are among the most popular and successful Disney animated films and have been around since the 1950s Snow White has been released. While Disney princesses may be a tradition spanning decades, the movies have changed over the years. In the early films, the princesses were essentially troubled prostitutes with little or no autonomy. However, as time passed, these princesses became more independent.

We’ve ranked all of the Disney princesses by how independent they are.

Sleeping Beauty/Cinderella

Sleeping Beauties And Cinderella They are two of the most classic Disney princesses. The two have many similarities. Both are blondes and don’t have much personality.

While their origin stories may differ, most of them are just about good looks and being rescued by a charming prince. These movies are definitely products of their time, and they’re not particularly kid-friendly because they promote stereotypes.

Snow White

Snow White's coffin

Snow White is also a rather dependent princess. Basically, she’s here to take care of men. In the end, she takes care of seven dwarfs with little personality or autonomy. When she was given a poisoned and cursed apple, Prince Charming saved her and kissed her in a rather creepy way.

She was the first Disney princess and one of the least independent of them all.

Jasmine is one of the few Disney princesses who doesn’t have her own movie. Since the movie doesn’t feature her, it makes sense that she’s not as independent as some of the others.

While Jasmine certainly has a will and personality of her own, she still needs Aladdin to save her. The scene where she is held captive by Jafar is also quite objective, making her appear to be a victim.

Beauty

Beauty and the Beast song

Belle is an independent middle-class princess. While she has a lot of dreams of her own and wants more opportunities than the small town can offer, she eventually needs to be rescued.

She’s a teenage girl, and the fact that she’s with The Beast even when he’s sometimes aggressive and intimidating is definitely a problem.

anna

ABC Special – Frozen: Making a Classic Animated – New one-hour special that introduces behind the scenes and shares the secrets of making the biggest animated movie ever Frozen: Making a Classic Animated – airs Tuesday, February 2 (8:00-East) 21:00) on ABC. Anna is one of the two princesses in Disney’s animated movies Ice 2, and she definitely tends to be independent. She wants more of the life given to her after her parents pass away, and as the series continues, she finds her own independence.

However, at first, she is interested in finding a man, and that seems to be her driving force.

Long Hair Princess

In Tangled, Rapunzel stands on a pub table and sings along with other patrons

Rapunzel is one of the most recent princesses, and she’s the one who takes better care of herself. She grew up in the Tower with very little freedom, but it’s not her fault. When she was finally able to leave her tower, she had a lot to learn, but she adapted quickly. And, she won’t just sit there and wait to be rescued.

She’s not the most independent of the princesses, but she’s definitely learned to find her strength.

elsa

Elsa is another princess caught up in her situation from the start. She was raised to be a fearsome being, and when her powers are unleashed, it will wreak havoc until she learns to embrace love rather than fear. One of the great things about Elsa’s story is that she doesn’t have a boyfriend.

This definitely makes her one of the most independent princesses, as she is not shaped by a romantic backstory.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas may not be the new princess, but she is certainly very independent. There are a lot of issues with the way Disney tells the story of Pocahontas, and in terms of how it portrays the relationship between John Smith and John Smith, this is certainly one that deserves criticism.

There’s a lot about this movie that hasn’t been dated. But it was she who saved him in the end, and overall she was a fierce, independent person.

Merida

Which Pixar character are you based on your MBTI

Merida’s Disney princess status is quite groundbreaking, as she is the first Disney princess not to have a prince. Her whole story is about family and that love more. Merida has a pretty free spirit, strong and independent.

However, she’s still basically a kid in the movie, so she hasn’t fully grown up yet.

Moana

Moana

Moana is another recent princess, her movie came out in 2016. Moana is another princess without love and quite young. Her story is about learning to follow her own path and dreams while remaining connected to her family and responsibilities.

Magnolia Flower

Directing and Star Searching for Disney's Live-Action Mulan

Mulan is an extremely independent princess. She went against her family and her entire culture to do what she felt was right, which is pretty sexist considering the era the film is set in.

She is definitely one of the strongest princesses and a princess who has the courage to do the right thing and be herself.

Swan

Tiana is definitely one of the most independent Disney princesses. She’s actually an adult when the series begins, even though she’s young and she has big dreams.

She spent her whole life trying to achieve her goals. She is a very independent and driven woman, given the setting of the film. Her goal of owning and running her own restaurant also makes her the most beloved princess ever.
