1) His loved ones encouraged him to study science in college and later in life.

Bill Nye’s parents, Jacqueline Jenkins and Edwin Darby Nye, brought him to life on November 27, 1955 in the state capital (Ned). Nye’s mother, Jenkins, was one of Goucher’s top students hired by the Navy to decode Japanese and German wartime communications. During World War II, Nye’s father worked as a contractor on Wake Island, where he helped build an airport. After his capture, he spent four years as a prisoner of war in a Japanese camp. To tell the time, Ned focused on the sundial, using the shadow of the shovel handle.

Bill satisfied Ned’s obsession with sundials by launching one into orbit. He always stood out as intelligent, even as a child. He received a full scholarship to attend Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Middle School, then transferred to Sidwell Friends before entering the Sibley School of Engineering at Cornell University, a top Ivy League institution.

2) He is the recipient of many patents in the United States.

After graduating from college in 1978, Nye found a job at Boeing. Furthermore, he developed a hydraulic resonant shock absorber for the Boeing 747. Nye holds several patents in the United States, including patents for ballerina’s pointy shoe, magnifying glass. Made from clear plastic bags filled with water, sports equipment and a patent for a digital abacus design.
