Hashmatullah Shahidi was born on Friday, 4 November 1994 (age 29 years; as of 2023) in Logar, Afghanistan. Their zodiac sign is Scorpio. His father introduced him to cricket when he was a child and at the age of 9 he started playing in local tournaments. When his father saw that he was playing well, his father enrolled him in a cricket academy in Kabul, where he received further training. Later he became a professional cricketer.

Hashmutullah Shahidi played his first Test match on 14 June 2018 against India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He scored his first Test half-century on 15 March 2019 against Ireland with a score of 61 in the first innings. On March 10, 2021, during the match against Zimbabwe, he scored an unbeaten 200 and became the first Afghan batsman to score a double century in Test.
