Gloom (real name Kassima Isabelle) is a Canadian YouTuber known for her entertaining vlogs and gaming videos. She rose to fame through her first channel, CloudyApples, which she launched in 2011. She took a two-year break from posting and returned after two years with great success. The CloudyApples channel is still around with over 500,000 subscribers, but it’s been four years since Gloom last updated it.
Kassima created his gaming and commentary channel, GloomGames, in 2015. As his following grew, he renamed the channel Gloom and expanded to include parodies and vlogging. Like most famous online gamers, Gloom’s latest content revolves around the mysterious game, Among us.
This piece will look at Gloom’s life. We can confirm that she is not married.
Gloom and her fiancé Terry dated for 10 years before Terry proposed to her.
Gloom and her boyfriend Terry met through her older brother. Terry spent a lot of time at Gloom’s house due to his close friendship with Gloom’s brother. Gloom was attracted to Terry due to his natural humor. She stated in a September 2016 Q&A that she took the lead and asked him out:
“It’s something that a lot of guys have. It’s like a certain energy that guys have who aren’t trying to impress you, they’re just naturally funny. They may make jokes that aren’t funny, but they don’t expect you to laugh. When I met Terry, he wasn’t trying to get my attention, he wasn’t trying to make me laugh. He was just being himself and I was naturally attracted to him. I was the one who asked Terry out.
Terry dramatically improved Gloom’s quality of life as he was supportive of what she was doing and was a constant source of joy and support in her life. Over the years, the couple discussed marriage, but Gloom stressed to Terry that she shouldn’t propose until he felt ready. In the couple’s engagement announcement video, Terry revealed that she had planned to pop the question at the age of 24, but his bleak financial situation got in the way.
In 2019, Terry began secretly designing a ring for Gloom. He contacted Gloom’s friends to help him create a special ring for his girlfriend of a decade. Gloom almost sniffed at the covert operation a few times, but Terry always knew how to get her away from her scent.
Terry planned to propose to her during a scheduled summer vacation in Singapore. However, the couple ended up traveling to Cuba where they lived an experience to forget. Terry eventually rented an art gallery and asked Gloom for her hand in marriage. Gloom concluded his announcement video of the couple by expressing his delight at the engagement:
“In short, I am very happy to be engaged. This is one of those things that I never thought would happen to me and never thought I would find someone who would accept me the way Terry does. That’s great because I’m a crazy person and Terry still loves me.”
Gloom lost a sister to clinical depression and struggles with her mental health at times.
Gloom was born on December 19, 1990 in Canada. She grew up with an older brother and a younger sister. People began commenting on Gloom’s withdrawn personality early on in her life. She felt happier alone and during the time that her family lived in Asia, she didn’t feel much different.
However, when the family returned to Canada, everything changed. Gloom’s personality and mixed ethnicity made her a target for bullies. Unbeknownst to Gloom, her sister was going through the same thing. When he found out about her, Gloom and her sister found comfort and strength in their common struggle. Their bond grew stronger when they discovered that they shared common interests and a common mental health condition, clinical depression.
Gloom and her sister dealt with their conditions in different ways. The popular player learned to overcome her mental health problems without medication, but her sister found it difficult to live without her medication. Once, she required hospitalization after overdosing on antidepressant pills. She survived that overdose, but a short time later, Gloom’s sister committed suicide.
Gloom took solace in the overwhelming messages sent by her sister’s friends about the support her sister had given them in helping them through their problems. She selflessly helped others while she was overwhelmed by her own personal battles:
“Despite my sister’s demons, many people came up to me and told me that she saved them from getting hurt. One of my closest friends owes my sister his life. She helped many people out of her dark vices, but she never put herself first. She would take time with others and she would give herself quick fixes.”
Gloom regularly talks about mental health on social media in an attempt to sensitize people to the complex nature of mental health conditions. She debunks myths and misconceptions and gives bad advice on the subject. On March 9, 2020, he tweeted:
“It’s pretty condescending when influencers tell people with depression or anxiety to ‘choose positivity.’ It’s hard to do that when you’re overwhelmed to the point of disassociating. Telling people to “cheer up” is not a grounding technique.”
Gloom has been in relationships with boys all her life, but after some soul-searching, she concluded that she is pansexual.
In 2018, an interesting but somewhat rude question from a fan forced Gloom to think about his sexual identity. Previously, Gloom hadn’t felt the need to broach his sexuality because the subject didn’t bother her. Furthermore, he viewed sexuality as inherently personal. She exclusively dated boys, but she couldn’t deny that she had been attracted to some of the girls in her life. Ella gloom even revealed that she had kissed some of the girls she had feelings for.
Gloom posted a ‘coming out’ video detailing that she was not a lesbian, nor did she feel the term bisexual was a good fit. She felt more comfortable identifying as pansexual:
“I feel like in the past I had never really thought about gender and sex in terms of being attracted to someone and wanting to spend every waking second with that person. It’s always been: I like people I like, and I don’t think gender or sex ever got in the way of that. What I’m trying to say here is, I think, almost certainly: sexuality is a weird thing, and I don’t really know it, I’m pansexual.”
