- In 2018, Gautam Rode, along with two others, allegedly became victims of a scam involving a real estate project in the Goregaon West area. The project was to be a 55-storey building, with the 14th floor designated for Rode’s flats. Development work stopped in 2016 and no progress has been made since then. Rode lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police and later filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Atithi Patel, a property developer involved in the project at that time. According to Rode’s complaint, he was promised that the building would be completed by December 2018. To secure the flat, Rode made an initial payment of Rs 1.5 lakh and subsequently paid monthly installments of Rs 5 lakh between May 2016 and May 2017. , totaling Rs 2.11 crore. However, when Rode requested the allotment letter and registration of the flat he faced problems, as Patel failed to provide them. It was at this point that Rode learned that no progress had been made beyond the 14th floor of the building. He demanded his money back, but Patel refused to return the money. According to Patel’s representative, builders usually do not refund money after cancellation, but he advised Rode to wait and have faith. The representative did not give any information about the status of the construction site in Goregaon. Additionally, the representative mentioned in an email that Rode was delaying the registration of the flat.
