Gary Sinise’s son Mac dies at 33

Gary Sinise and his family are in mourning. The actor announced that his son Mac passed away after a battle with cancer. Sinise recently shared the story of her son and his family on the Gary Sinise Foundation website.

“Like any family who experiences a loss like this, we are heartbroken and have been handling it as best we can. As parents, it is very difficult to lose a child,” Sinise wrote in a statement. “My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered a similar loss and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We have all experienced it in some way. Over the years, I have met many families of our fallen heroes. “It’s heartbreaking and just difficult.”

Sinise said he and his family faced two cancer diagnoses in a row. Sinise’s wife Moira battled stage 3 breast cancer. At the same time, doctors diagnosed Sinise’s son, Mac, with a rare form of spinal cancer.

“Our family’s fight against cancer lasted five and a half years and became increasingly more challenging as time went on. While our hearts ache for missing him, we are comforted knowing that Mac is no longer in trouble and we are inspired and touched by the way he accomplished this,” he added. “He fought a tough battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never stopped trying.”

“Mac was living a dream and making it a reality with his collaboration partner, Oliver,” Sinise wrote. “It was incredibly motivating and therapeutic for him, and he was so excited to see it all come together.”

Sinise hopes his son’s story can continue to inspire and motivate others. That is the legacy that her son leaves behind.

He said: “By sharing our story we hope to shed some light on what has been a difficult time for us as Mac truly was a light to us all. An incredible inspiration to those who knew and loved him, he faced his battle with grace, courage and love. Even with setback after setback, he never stopped living and learning, creating, giving and loving.”
