Abrar made his debut in 2016 when he played for Karachi in the Under 19 Zonal and took 53 wickets. In 2017, he was selected for Karachi Kings for the Pakistan Super League. In 2020, Abrar made his first-class debut for Sindh against Southern Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. In November 2021, he made his List A debut for Pakistan Shaheens against the Sri Lanka A cricket team.

- He learned cricket by playing in the streets. He joined Rashid Latif Cricket Academy at the age of 15. In an interview, his coach at the academy, Muhammad Masroor, talked about his performance in the trials and said,
He was bowling all variations of carrom ball, leg-spin, googly, slider with the same grip (he was bowling all variations with the same grip). He doesn’t have that big of a turn. He was bowling on the stumps and no one was able to read his length. I immediately asked him if he had ever played with hard ball. The answer was ‘no’. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Out of curiosity, I examined his fingers, and they were like iron rods.
- In an interview, his brother told that during a test match held in Mulan in 1992, when Virender Shewag scored a triple century off Saqlain Mushtaq, Abrar saw Saqlain’s mistakes in the test match. Talking about this in an interview, his brother said,
Abrar was about six years old and he used to point out mistakes in Saqlain Bhai’s bowling. My father became so angry with her running commentary that he locked her in another room.”
- When he was a child, he had a very good relationship with his mother. When he was nine years old, his mother asked him to memorize the Quran and he memorized it. According to his brother, his mother wanted him to pursue Alimaa (study of Islamic sciences), but he did not agree and said he wanted to play cricket.
- He got injured during the Pakistan Super League in 2017. In an interview, his brother had said that Abrar was so injured that doctors said he would become paralyzed and would never be able to play cricket again.
