Fran Drescher reveals George Clooney’s reaction to the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike

The SAG-AFTRA strike finally ended after 118 days.

Fran Drescher, president of the union, joined Extra‘s Billy Bush on Thursday (Nov. 9) to talk about the strike and Hollywood’s return to work.

“It was moving all the way… We had reached a threshold where we crossed the billion dollar mark and ended up in a [$1,011,000,000]which is pretty historic in terms of contract size in this industry,” he said.

Writers and directors got a minimum 5% raise, actors got a minimum 7% raise, and background staff got a minimum 11% raise.

“When it all adds up, it’s pretty significant… You know, it wasn’t what we wanted the background artists to get, we didn’t get it, but we were very happy that our lower-income members got the award. most for their minimum wage,” he explained.

“New breakthroughs opened up everywhere. And that’s what this moment was really about. It was essential that the artificial intelligence was entrenched, with many protections for members. And, you know, it was very important that we find a new source of income to try to level the playing field when it comes to compensation for members who work on streaming channels.”

“We are already thinking about what we are going to work on for the next contract. In a negotiation you don’t get everything,” she revealed.

He also explained how George Clooney reacted.

“George Clooney said, ‘I would have bet my house and lost that you couldn’t get the deal you got, that you wouldn’t have gone over a billion dollars.’ And that made me very happy,” he said.
