Fawad Mirza is an Indian horse rider. He is the first Indian since 1982 to win two silvers in an individual event at the Asian Games 2018. In 2021, Fawad also became the first Indian rider since 2000, and joining Indrajit Lamba (1996 Atlanta) and Imtiaz Anees (2000 Sydney), to qualify for the Olympics.

Fawad Mirza was born on Friday, 6 March 1992 (age 29 years; as in 2021) in Bangalore, India. His zodiac sign is Pisces. Fawad Mirza was fond of horses since childhood. Well, there was an Agha Ali Askar who came from Iran in 1824 and brought horses with him. We have records to show that this family was involved with horses and racing for many years before moving here. I belong to the sixth generation of the lineage. Since the arrival of Ali Askar, our connection with horses has been unbreakable. At one time, he had about 700 horses in his backyard near Fatima Bakery. The area behind that (Johnson’s Market) is called Arabian Lane because all the Arabian horses lived there.
Fuad Mirza has an elder brother, Aly Askar Mirza, who is also a professionally trained horseman and veterinarian.

Fuad Mirza trains under German equestrian Sandra Aufarth. Sandra is a gold medalist in the team game and a bronze medalist in the individual game at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also won a gold and a silver medal in the team and individual events at the 2011 European Eventing Championships, respectively.

Fawad Mirza was born in a horse riding family. While growing up with a lot of horses around, Fawad developed an affection for them. For Fawad, going on horse riding after coming back from school was no less than a ritual. As he grew up, his interest in horse riding increased and he started practicing the sport professionally at the age of just 5. Fawad participated in many horse riding tournaments during his school days including the National Equestrian Championship and Junior National Equestrian Championship.
Fuad Mirza made his international debut at the 2014 Jakarta Asian Games, competing in both the individual eventing and team eventing tournaments. Fawad tried hard but could not win any medal in the tournament. Fawad Mirza first came into limelight after winning 2 silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games. Fawad won his first medal in the individual event and second medal in the team event along with Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik and Jitendra Singh. By winning two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games, Fawad Mirza became the first Indian since 1982 to win two silver medals in an individual event at the Games at the Asian Games 2018.
Fuad Mirza won his first international gold medal at the CIC2 2018 tournament held in Netherlands. She also won a silver medal in the CCI1 held in Germany in the same year. In January 2020, Fawad Mirza qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 after achieving the Minimum Eligibility Requirement (MER) on both his horses, Seigneur Medicot and Djara, at the eventing competition in Baborów, Poland, making him the first Indian rider since 2000 to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. He became the third Indian to qualify for the Olympics, behind Indrajit Lamba (1996 Atlanta) and Imtiaz Anees (2000 Sydney). Fawad Mirza competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where he finished 22nd in the final.

Arjuna Award
In the year 2019, Fawad Mirza received the prestigious Arjuna Award from the Honorable President of India Ram Nath Kovind. The Arjuna Award is presented to sports personalities in India for their outstanding achievements. Award recipients are presented with a bronze statue of Arjuna, a certificate, a formal attire and a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 million.

- Fawad Mirza loves spending quality time with his horses. He spends about 12 hours a day with them. Fawad has a farm in Bengaluru, which is spread over 1.5 acres and has 12 horses. Fawad feeds the horses, trains them and takes them on walks to establish a deeper bond with them. In an interview he said,
We train every day, I take care of them myself, I am in the stables for about 12 hours a day.. We feed them, we train them, take them for walks, take them to graze Are there, apply ice on their feet. It’s just like you do with a professional athlete… physio, recovery, massage.
