Halsey was talented in art and enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design. He soon discovered that he couldn’t afford to stay in school. His only option was to join a community college, but he was against the idea. Halsey felt it was a waste of time.

Despite being kicked out of the house, Halsey shares a great relationship with Chris and Nicole. Halsey occasionally appears with her parents during award shows and events. Chris was even Halsey’s date during the 2017 Grammy Awards.

Halsey has never tried to claim her black identity because she passes herself off as white.

Many are surprised to learn that Halsey is biracial because, as Halsey admitted to Playboy, “I look like a white girl. But I don’t feel like one. I’m a black woman.” Halsey added that it’s been weird negotiating life looking like a white woman, but feeling like a black woman.

“I’m passing for white,” he said. “I’ve accepted that about myself and have never tried to control anything about black culture that isn’t mine.” In light of the Black Lives Matter protests, Halsey faced accusations that he doesn’t “vindicate the black side of her” about her.

Halsey acknowledged that she is posing as white and accepted that she does not face the same dangers that other black people face. “I’ve always been proud of who I am, but it would be absolutely disservice to say ‘we’ when I’m not susceptible to the same violence.” she tweeted.

In an interview for the August 2021 cover of Seduce, Halsey stated that people shouldn’t discount their experiences because of their appearance. “A lot of people try to write off a lot of my experiences because I present white,” she said. However, she added that she is aware of the disadvantages she would face if she did not pose as white. She explained:

“She has a full sleeve. She has a pierced tongue. She’s super, super cool, really beautiful, and she always had tattoos when I was little. So I think admiring her, I always saw it as artistic.”

Nicole took Halsey to get her first tattoo when she was 15 years old. Halsey and Nicole got matching anchor tattoos. Halsey said;

“So I begged and begged and begged her to let me get a tattoo, and she got me to get one almost as a scare tactic… It’s an anchor, and it has my mom’s initials on it, and she has the same thing.”
