Eva Longoria is opening up about her time on Desperate Housewives and why she thinks the show would be the victim of cancel culture if it aired today.

“I don’t know if we could do the show today. I think we’d get canceled,” Eva told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, not canceled on TV but like canceled in culture because it was so groundbreaking and we said and did so many things that were shocking at the time. I don’t know where these ladies would be now in their life.”

Eva revealed that Jesse Metcalfe wasn’t the original actor to play John the gardener.

“They recast him because they’re like, ‘He really looks 16!’ And then they cast Jesse and [he] was 25 when he did the show. He was 25 playing 16, and I was 27 playing 40. So Jesse and I were actually the same age so we didn’t feel weird, but it was definitely much better chemistry and better for the story that it was Jesse. And it was so iconic! I remember Jesse and I going everywhere together and people still come up to me and ask me like, ‘Tell me about the gardener,’” Eva said.

So, why wouldn’t a reboot happen?

“I mean, I love [it]. I miss Gabby. But I think I’d be the only one to sign up,” Eva said on Watch What Happens Live.

When Andy Cohen asked if “everyone else has kind of moved on,” Eva said, “Yes. But, also [showrunner] Marc Cherry, he says, ‘I fully mined those characters.’ We used to, back in the day, we used to shoot 24 episodes a season and we did that for eight years. We fully mined those characters. There was nobody left on the street for me to sleep with. I slept with everybody.”
