The dogs of Elden Ring are one of the game’s most plentiful enemies, but one glitch has turned certain Rotten Strays into one-hit killing machines that would make most of the game’s bosses jealous. While the game has earned countless high-scoring reviews, certain glitches and performance issues have caused some frustrations among fans, especially when they lead to lost lives and runes.
Since its launch more than a month ago, Elden Ring has had several patches released to fix specific performance issues, glitches, and balancing problems. Players on PC still encounter loading issues that cause the game’s framerate to temporarily dip, which can be disastrous if it happens in the middle of an intense battle. Certain fixes, including recent buffs and nerfs, have addressed some glitches and rebalanced the game’s weapons, forcing some speedrunners to completely change their strategies.
Elden Ring’s Rotten Stray enemies may revoke the title of man’s best friend from all dogs thanks to a glitch that quickly kills even the highest leveled players with ridiculously fast bleed damage. As reported by Kotaku, the glitch was showcased by YouTuber Flame of Ambition. The video shows the player approaching a Rotten Stray found in the Altus Plateau’s Writheblood Ruins area, and with one combo attack the infested dog quickly kills them. While the many dogs found in Elden Ring typically don’t pose a considerable threat, the attack completely ignores the player’s tremendous amount of defense and health. The unusually-fast bleed build-up and overlapping sound effects suggest that the over-powered attack is not what the developers intended for the enemy.
Certain glitches found in Elden Ring have managed to break the game, but others have been less devastating, and instead have caused hilarity for the FromSoftware title’s many players. While being overpowered by the strong dogs of Writheblood Ruins has caused countless runes to be lost by unsuspecting players, there are still lots of glitches that have spread across social media as memes. One recent example saw Elden Ring‘s steed replaced by a giant’s arrow, which failed to be as likable as Torrent the horse. As FromSoftware develops patches for the game, most of these unintended issues should disappear over time.
Many enemies will challenge players throughout the hundreds of hours of gameplay Elden Ring offers, with plenty of battles requiring patience and cunning to come out on top. The game provides a huge variety of playstyles that allow players to use weapons, magic, and status effects to help customize each player’s experience. Bleed damage has been a popular tactic for players who want to score bonus damage against formidable enemies, but the glitched Rotten Strays found on the Altus Plateau have forced players to feel the pain of countless enemies who have suffered death from player bleed damage. Hopefully, the Elden Ring bug will be fixed soon, but in the meantime, players should take care in the area.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
