Dutee Chand was born on 3 February 1996 (age 28 years; as in 2024). Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. He was born in Jajpur district of Odisha. He did his schooling from a local school in Chaka Gopalpur village, Odisha. He then pursued Bachelor of Laws from KIIT University, Bhubaneswar in 2013.

Later he had to go to Patiala for advanced training. She later moved to Hyderabad to train at Pullela Gopichand Academy. She trained under coach N Ramesh and used to train among boys, which gave her immense confidence. He was supported by his elder sister, Saraswati, who further motivated him to achieve his goals. Dutee Chand was born to Chakradhar Chand and Akhuji Chand. He belongs to a BPL (Below Poverty Line) family and faced many problems while growing up. His parents are weavers in Jajpur district of Odisha. Once in an interview, he revealed that his parents had only Rs. 500 per month and it was difficult to support his entire family with that income. He has 5 sisters and one brother.

In May 2019, he revealed that he is in a relationship with a 19-year-old girl from his village. He said that he is very happy with his relationship. However, he did not reveal the name of his partner. He was praised all over India for being brave and talking so openly about his relationship with a girl. She became the first Indian sportsperson to be openly gay in India.

At the 2016 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, she competed in the 60 m event and set an Indian national record by clocking 7.28 seconds in the qualifiers and won a bronze medal in the main event. On 25 June 2016, he broke the 100 meters national record by clocking 11.24 seconds at the 26th International Meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan. At the Rio Olympics the same year, she became the third Indian woman to participate in the women’s 100 meters sprint.

In 2017, at the Asian Athletics Championships, Bhubaneswar, she won two bronze medals, one in the women’s 100 m, the other in the women’s 4×100 m relay. At the 2018 Asian Games, Dutee won a silver medal in the women’s 100 meters final. It was Dutee’s first Asian Games medal and India’s first silver medal in the category after 32 years since PT Usha won it in 1996. On 29 August 2018, she won her second silver medal at the Asian Games in the women’s 200 meters final.

- In 2014, he was dropped from the 2014 Commonwealth Games squad after the Athletic Federation of India said he had hyperandrogenism (testosterone levels higher than the permissible limits). This made her ineligible to compete as a female athlete. After this, he was also dropped from the Indian squad for the Commonwealth Games 2014 Asian Games. He was banned from participating in an international competition. He appealed against the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). CAS lifted the ban on him, saying there was no evidence he had high testosterone levels. This was a big victory for them because it was a gender issue and many key players supported them.
- In 2019, Dutee had revealed that she was in a bisexual relationship for the last five years. She is the first Indian athlete to publicly say that she has been in a relationship with a girl. Many people came out in her support and said that it was very brave of her to say this openly. His family was against this relationship. After his statement, his elder sister Saraswati said that the girl with whom Dutee is in a relationship is only for her money and property. Dutee’s mother did not approve of their relationship and said that the girl was Dutee’s niece and she could not become Dutee’s partner.
- On 3 January 2023, Dutee Chand faced a four-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) due to the detection of anabolic agents/SARMS in her urine samples. In an interview, Chand expressed his intention to challenge NADA’s decision and appealed to the state government, central government and NADA to lift the ban, allowing him to represent India in competitions.

- His family was poor, and his father could not provide food for all the children. So, he sent Dutee and her elder sister, Saraswati, to live in a government sports hostel.
- The first shoes that Dutee wore at the professional level were a pair of Goldstar shoes, and it took her 2 to 3 weeks to get used to the shoes.
