Dr. Charanjit Singh is an Indian politician and doctor who rose to fame after defeating three-time MLA Charanjit Singh Channi from Chamkaur Sahib in the 2022 state assembly elections.

Dr. Charanjit Singh was born in 1962, (age 62 years; as of 2022) in Punjab, India. He joined the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh to pursue a master’s degree in Ophthalmology.

political career
Dr. Charanjit Singh is an Ophthalmologist and State Vice President (Punjab) of Doctors Wing. While pursuing his medical practice, he also joined politics to work for human welfare. Initially, he became a member of the Indian National Congress and he was the Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). Dr. Charanjit Singh was associated with the SC wing of Congress for many years. Later he joined it. In 2017, Dr Singh stood against Channi, but lost by 12,308 votes. In the 2017 state assembly elections, Dr Singh got 34% of the total votes, while Channi got 42% of the votes. Ophthalmologist Dr. Singh left a deep impression on the voters. He raised the topic of illegal mining, ‘Gunda’ tax and widespread “corruption” among Congress employees, among other topics.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal personally campaigned for him. Charanjit Singh was quite vocal on the problem of illegal mining in Rupnagar district as well as the alleged imposition of goonda tax by some Congress workers. This is also considered to be a major reason for the defeat of Charanjit Singh Channi in his strongest fort. During a media interaction, when he was asked about HGIS competition with Channi, he replied,
Channi will lose from both the seats as he has been exposed in illegal mining and other acts of commissioneering. He is misusing his position for business. I am a real ‘common man’. CM Channi is living a luxurious life. I have served the society and remained in the area even after losing the elections. I have never been involved in any wrongdoing like illegal sand mining etc.
