John Geddert(John Gerald Geddert) was an American artistic gymnastics coach who was head coach of the 2012 gold medal United States women’s Olympic team. John Geddert was also a regular coach of team member Jordyn Wieber.
Early life
John Geddert was born on December 21, 1957, in Michigan, United States. His nationality was American and he followed the Christian religion.
There is no other information about his parents, siblings, friends and early childhood. He finished high school at Alpena High School. After finishing high school, she enrolled at Central Michigan University.
Prosecution and death
John Geddert committed suicide by shooting himself at a rest stop along Interstate 127 in DeWitt, Michigan, just hours after being charged with 24 felonies in February 25, 2021.
The crimes included 14 counts of human trafficking and forced labor resulting in injury, six counts of human trafficking of a minor for forced labor and one count each of continuing criminal enterprise.
It also includes first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and lying to a law enforcement officer during an investigation of a violent crime.
Personal life
John Geddert was a married man. He was married to his wife Kathryn. Details about his marriage and where the wedding took place remain confidential. The couple also had three children together.

John Geddert – Professional life
John Geddert was the head coach of the Great Lakes Gymnastics Club in Lansing, Michigan, since 1984. He first worked alongside Larry Nassar at the Great Lakes Gymnastics Club.
In 1988, he was named USA Gymnastics Federation Men’s Coach of the Year in Michigan. John also received the Federation Regional Coach of the Year award in 1990 and 1991.
He was subsequently fired from the Great Lakes Gymnastics Club. He later founded Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Dimondale in 1996. Twistars USA Gymnastics Club was where Larry Nassar sexually abused young athletes.
John gave ownership and management of the gym to his wife, Kathryn, following news and rumors about Larry’s 2018 sexual abuse scandal.

Sexual abuse scandal
John’s partner, Larry Nassar, was sued for sexually assaulting at least 150 women and girls. The case caused legal problems for Geddert.
It was also speculated that due to the close personal and professional relationships between Geddert and Larry, Geddert remained silent despite being aware of Nassar’s abuse.
Many former gymnasts and their parents have claimed that Geddert’s intense and violent environment allowed Nassar, a calm and seemingly benign doctor who volunteered at Geddert’s gym regularly, to effortlessly prepare the gymnasts and gain their trust.
Many of the gymnasts have stated that Geddert’s violent environment made it impossible for them to approach him about the abuse.
A former gymnast testified that Geddert walked in and saw Nassar penetrating her with his fingers during alleged medical sessions, but the witness claimed he joked about her injury before leaving the room.
