This is the second of five songs that have been revealed as part of the weekly “Wish Wednesdays” music campaign, leading up to the film’s theatrical release in November.
The track’s music was written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, with lyrics by Julia.
“We had a great time,” director Chris Buck shared of the song. “The images are fantastic: he is the King and he feels that no one respects him. “It’s been a while since we’ve heard a good villain song, so Julia and Ben just gave it a try.”
In the upcoming film, “people come from all over the world to give their wishes to Magnificent, a charming and confident King who promises to grant them their deepest wishes… someday. But the King is not entirely altruistic; Only he decides whose wish will be granted and enjoys control.”
“He is charismatic; “He is handsome, and he knows it, but I think he truly believes that his desires are safer in his hands,” screenwriter and executive producer Jennifer Lee, creative director of Walt Disney Animation Studios, shared in a statement. “So when Asha exposes the flaw in his philosophy, he feels underestimated and threatened.”
Want will debut in theaters on November 22. Watch the official trailer here!
