Career
Since 2014, Chris Segal has worked part-time as an MLB umpire. He previously played catcher and outfielder for the St. Mary’s. During his career, Segal won various trophies, including the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, the Coaches Award and the St. Mary’s Athletic Director’s Award. He started his career as a judge during his student years. He worked in northern Virginia and St. Mary’s land at different times.
After graduation, he wasted little time early in his career, enrolling in the Jim Evans Professional Pitching Academy in 2006. He then advanced to Triple-A and began to be evaluated by major league managers. Chris was asked to umpire in the ‘Arizona Fall League’ and then invited to spring training in 2010.
