Latest news from Allison Jaslow

Allison Jaslow, a stalwart of the veterans movement, has been appointed the third executive director of the Organization of American Veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan (IAVA), making her the first woman to hold this position. Additionally, she will be the first openly gay veteran to lead the country’s top veterans organization.

Jaslow, a veteran of the Iraq War, recently joined the IAVA Board of Directors after serving as the organization’s chief executive officer while Paul Rieckhoff was the CEO. He adds more than ten years of senior professional experience to the organization. Jaslow will resume as chief executive on March 15, but will be on Capitol Hill this week as IAVA members head to the capital to campaign for the post-9/11 generation of veterans.

After a thorough nationwide search, the Board of Directors unanimously selected Jaslow as CEO. In addition to his duties as a former IAVA director, Jaslow has successfully held the positions of congressional campaign manager, chief of staff to a member of Congress, and political and media strategist. She is a former officer who was awarded a Bronze Star for her achievements in the war. She is also a member of the Veterans Affairs Council of the National Park Service Association and an authorized member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Most recently, she was an adjunct professor of procedure at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
