Chiefs coach praised Travis Kelce for overcoming his ‘temperament’ before Super Bowl push

Not long before Travis Kelce’s now-infamous shove on the sideline in Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid talked about how the tight end had overcome his temper.

While speaking with CBS’ Bill Cowher, Reid stated that as a player, Kelce has always been very good. “Now he had a temper,” the Chiefs coach said. “So, on the field, he would go out and do some crazy things.”

Reid also admitted that Travis Kelce, whom he has coached since 2013, was a “challenge” from the beginning. “But he has grown before our eyes. He has always had that heart, that tender heart, but he had to overcome the other things and channel them properly.”

However, Kelce seemed to throw all his control out the window in the second quarter of Super Bowl LVIII. After seeing Isiah Pacheco fumble the ball, he saw Kelce yelling and shoving Reid.

Immediately after the game ended, Travis Kelce spoke out about the incident. “I’m going to keep it between us unless my ‘Mic’d Up’ tells the world. But I was just telling him how much I love him.”

Reid also claimed that Kelce “came low on him.” He was fine. “It took me off balance. He wasn’t looking. He was really just coming to say, ‘Just put me in, I’ll score, I’ll score.’ So that’s pretty much what it was. I love that. I mean, it’s not the first time, so you know, I appreciate it.”

Reid explained that what he likes most about Kelce is his love for playing football. “She wants to help her team win. It’s not selfish, it’s not that, and I understand that. And no matter how much he bumps into me, I chase him. And we understand it. He just caught me off balance.”
