Cheran was born on 12 December 1965 (53 years; age as 2018) in Pazhayurpatti, near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It was her childhood dream to enter the world of glamor. He started acting in plays and dramas while still in school. He rose to fame with the role of Senthil Kumar in the 2004 Tamil movie “Autograph”.
During the early phase of his career, Cheran worked as a production manager and assistant director. He debuted as a director with the film “Bharathi Kannamma”, released in 1997. Cheran entered the acting field with the film “Porkakaalam”.

Cheran belonged to a Hindu family. He belongs to Scheduled Caste community. His father, Pandian, was a projector operator at the Vellalur Touring Theatre, while his mother, Kamala, was a primary school teacher. Cheran has two sisters.
Cheran is married to Selvarani and the couple have two daughters, Dhamini and Nivedha Priyadarshini (filmmaker).
livelihood
Cheran Pandian started his career as a production manager. He worked as an assistant director in director KS Ravikumar’s film “Puriyadha Pudhir”. He also worked as an associate director for the film “Mahanadi”, which starred Kamal Haasan. He was an assistant/associate director for about 11 films. Cheran made his debut as a director with “Bharathi Kannamma”, released in 1997. His directorial debut was made in the Kannada language as “Usire” (2001).
Cheran became an actor-cum-director with the Tamil film “Porkakaalam”. In 2004, he appeared in the lead role of “Senthil Kumar” in the Tamil film “Autograph”. Cheran not only played the lead role in “Autograph”, but was also the director, writer and producer of the film. The film was a superhit and was screened four times at the Montreal World Film Festival in Canada.
Cheran has produced ‘Autograph’ (2004), ‘Azhagai Irukkirai Byamai Irukkirathu’ (2006), ‘Aadum Koothu’ (2007), ‘Muran’ (2011), and ‘JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhakai’ (2015).
In 2014, Cheran founded “C2H” (Cinema2Home) to curb the issue of copyright infringement prevalent in the Tamil film industry.
In 2019, he appeared as a contestant in season 3 of the reality show Bigg Boss (Tamil).
Controversy
- In 2013, Cheran’s daughter Dhamini accused him of threatening a boy with whom she was in a relationship. Dhamini filed a complaint against him and claimed that her father had objections to her relationship with a man named “Chandrashekhar” (Chandru). In the Madras High Court, Dhamini said that she wanted to go and live with Chandru’s mother, but later she decided to live with her parents.
- In 2016, during the audio launch of the Tamil film “Kanna Pinna”, Cheran criticized Sri Lankan Tamils for being responsible for making unauthorized copies of Tamil films. He was quoted as saying, “I found out that it was Sri Lankan Tamils who were involved in online leaks by releasing new movies illegally. The film fraternity has raised its voice in favor of Sri Lankan Tamils on many occasions. Thinking about it, I feel ashamed to support those who eat our money and push us into poverty.
- In 2017, Cheran wrote a seven-page letter in which he accused Vishal, the general secretary of Nadigar Sangam, of being “selfish, power-hungry and insensitive”.
- She had also accused South Indian actor Karthi and Nadigar Sangam general secretary Vishal of misbehaving with her when Cheran approached them for films.
