Rant screen: John wick is one of the only movie franchises that gets better with each movie. It’s unbelievable how you outdo yourself all the time. 87eleven is great with the steps you take. Every time you come back John wick project while still making the action feel very raw?
Chad Stahelski: If you talk to anyone in the creative field, it’s the same. The wacky answer to all of this is that we just need a break. By really pushing yourself, you’ll get better, you’ll rest, and you’ll see life differently. You take all the input, you open it, you get something else. It’s constantly evolving, but if you’re working all the time, you won’t be able to breathe. So after each Wick, we take a deep breath, which is more of a discovery.
Me and my stunt team went back to the gym and we worked hard and had fun. And then someone comes up with this idea and we go to YouTube, or we start meeting all of our other martial arts stunt friends, and we’ll say, “Oh, sambo or capoeira, or let’s fight tomahawk.” So it’s just about study and fun. So you have to go to the playground for a while. When you work all the time, there is no time for the playground. So it’s about achieving the goals that you have set for yourself. But then you have to take a deep breath and explore, and that’s how we get new ideas.
partly because John wick What makes the franchise stand out from many other action franchises is the world building. It’s unbelievable to see the world evolve. What was the most surprising part of the process? Because I know we’ve expanded ballerina And continental hotel.
Chad Stahelski: I think the most surprising thing for Keanu and I is that we’re still interested in it. I know it sounds weird, but if you watch your own movie after seeing it hundreds of times and more — there’s always going to be disappointment. This gives you some hope because you are still interested. The Bowery King was supposed to be this little thing in season two, and we liked it so much that our ideas just kept popping up. Let’s keep repeating. Let’s use Bowery King. It’s interesting that you can still keep expanding your ideas. I think it is interesting.
Donnie Yen stole every shot for me and Caine was amazing. He’s great. Can you talk about working with Downey? He brings a lot to the role, and he feels he has built a friendship with Keanu’s John Wick.
Chad Stahelski: I’ve never worked with Donnie before, but I’ve always been a huge fan. So we tried to call Downey and I did a Zoom call with him. He has said that he is a fan of the franchise. But he’s also a little hesitant to see what’s in store. What is the fourth thing we must do? Shall we put the same love in fourth place? He put a lot of thought into the characters because we gave them a reading.
He came out and said, “Listen, I’m very interested. I just don’t know what the hell I’m interested in. It’s a great world, but how do you think I’d fit in? I’m from Hong Kong. Kong World” We have a lot of friends from Yuen Woo-ping who are experienced in Matrix, we have some on the same team. Downey said, “Well, I have a different vision for this role.” He gave it to me, “Look, I don’t want to do this, I want to do this.” He has a lot of thought about it, which is great.
You could tell he’s obsessed with our John Wick world and he’s really taken it to the next level. In fact, he cares a lot and puts a lot of thought into it. I know it’s a good game. Fortunately, everything went well. He comes from a completely different place [angle], even for myself, it’s a different character. You can see him saying so when he sent me this picture of Bruce Lee in his original suit and tight tie. He said, “That’s what I thought,” and I said, “Oh, that’s great.”
