Season 6 was particularly impactful for the character of Caitriona.
“Last season was really difficult for Claire. We saw the collapse of her psyche,” Caitriona said. “Although there is a lot of danger, it is curative. She has figured out how to overcome the worst she’s ever experienced, and it has made her a stronger, more resilient person. She’s in a much better place than last season, although she still has a lot of bad things happening to her. Her self-destruction was almost necessary because her old coping mechanisms no longer served her.
War features prominently in the upcoming season, affecting all the characters in different ways.
“Because it’s been a constant in her life, she knows how to function in that reality,” Caitriona said. “It’s an ability and she’s a strength, but she’s also a wound. We’ve seen Claire in this position before. In times of war, life becomes very immediate. She can see that a lot of these things weigh heavily on Jamie. As a wife, she is trying to be there for him and support him while she fears for his life. But Claire isn’t just that. As a doctor, she is there, if not on the front lines, then very close.”
Sam Heughan and the rest of the cast of strange confirmed that filming has wrapped on the show’s seventh season.
