Britney Spears’ generation-defining hits grace Broadway in new musical once upon a timeand it turns out that she had a lot to do with it.
The 41-year-old “Toxic” pop star screamed the show on opening night last week.
However, fans have been wondering exactly how involved she was in the development of the project, which blends her music with classic fairy tales and feminism to weave an enchanting tale.
Hunter Arnold, one of the show’s producers, revealed that Britney was quite involved in some key parts of the new musical.

Talking with VarietyHunter credited Britney with developing the show.
“Actually, it was Britney who came up to us and said, ‘We’d like to have a show based on my music, and specifically not a biomusical,’” he explained. “The original idea came from ideas that she herself presented: she loves fairy tales, princesses and storybooks.”
It took some work to get the show to where it is today, but Britney was involved throughout: “We did a couple of tries, we didn’t get it right instantly. Then we did a workshop after putting together the current version of her and she came to see it and give her opinion on it”.
Hunter added that Britney gave the team something they really needed: creative license.
“Britney and her team gave us quite a liberal ability to change the lyrics here and there, to make sure things didn’t feel clunky, but more more purposeful,” he said. “You don’t want to change too much because this is music that everyone on Earth loves; It’s half art, half science to make sure everything fits where it is.”
If you missed it, Britney recently opened up about whether she really plans to retire. She also managed to have what she felt like a part-time job, and she wasn’t helping develop once upon a time.
