The latest promotional poster for TVING’s next K-drama The Island has been released and it’s breathtaking. The compelling story and excellent cast of the unusual fantasy action series are ready to delight the audience. Legendary K-pop superstar Cha Eun-woo of ASTRO, blockbuster Pandora Kim Nam-gil and Search: WWW actress Lee Da-hee have been confirmed to join the show.
The Island is a fantasy action film based on the web-toon of the same name. The show, set in the lovely yet mysterious Jeju province, will follow the journeys and adventures of the main characters as they battle against an evil entity that wants to destroy the entire planet. According to the creators and streaming site, Iceland aims to delve into the myriad of folktales, legends and stories that have been an important part of Korean culture and history. The series’ purpose is further bolstered by its location on one of Korea’s most popular islands.

Amazon bought the worldwide streaming rights to “The Island”.
On October 6, Amazon purchased the worldwide broadcasting rights to Iceland. This means that the show will be available to domestic audiences on TVING, while overseas fans will be able to watch it on Prime Video. The plot focuses on three people whose lives are intertwined as they battle against a larger evil force. Kim Nam-gil will play Pan, an immortal monster who has been defending the earth against evil forces for centuries. Lee Da-hee will play Won Mi-ho, the heir to a wealthy family conglomerate, who is sent to Jeju Island after causing trouble at home.
ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo will play priest John on the big screen. Father Ivan is a Roman Catholic priest who performs exorcisms. John is considered the youngest exorcist in the world and is sent to Jeju to fight the evil that plagues the area. Sung Joon, who starred in Hyde, Jekyll and Me, is also expected to appear in the film. Sung Joon will play Gung-tan, Pan’s ally, who was raised with the same goal of fighting the evil forces that are threatening the planet.
However, there is a rift in the relationship between Gung-tan and Pan, causing Gung-tan to compete with him. To gain an advantage over his opponent, Gung-tan switched sides and faced Pan. Go Doo-shim and Park Geun-hyung, both experienced actors, have been cast as supporting roles in the next series. Park Geun-hyun impressed in The Good Detective, while Go Doo-shim recently appeared in the Netflix original series Our Blues.
The play will be directed by famous director Bae Jong, who has just directed the hit movie Fabricated City. The program is scheduled to launch in December 2022.
