Arvind Trivedi was born in Ujjain, British India on Tuesday, 8 November 1938 (age 82 years at the time of death). He was fond of acting since childhood; Since his elder brother was also a theater artist. Trivedi’s family roots are in Kukadiya village near Idar, Gujarat. When his family moved to Ujjain, his father suffered a paralytic attack. After this the Trivedi family settled in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

His father was a mill worker who died after an attack of paralysis when Aravind was still a child. Arvind had three brothers and sisters; two elder brothers Bhalchandra (educationist) and Upendra Trivedi (actor) and one sister. His elder brother, Upendra Tripathi was a brilliant Gujarati actor, known as “Abhinay Samrat” for his outstanding performance in the Gujarati drama “Abhinay Samrat”. Upendra Trivedi died on 4 January 2015.

Trivedi worked in more than 250 films, including Gujarati and Hindi films and several television serials. Most of his films and television series had themes related to mythological or social issues. Before entering the film and television industry, he had done several Gujarati dramas. In 1971, he made his debut in the Hindi film “Paraya Dhan”.
The same year, she made her Gujarati debut with the film Jesal Toral.
In 1987, he made his television debut with Ramanand Sagar’s epic television series ‘Ramayana’, in which he played the character of Ravana.
He played the role of Ravana with such intensity that even today his profound acting skills are appreciated.
Apart from Ramayana, he also appeared in several other popular television series, including Vikram Aur Betaal (1988) in which he played the role of “Yogi” and Brahmarshi Vishwamitra (1991) in which he played the role of “Trishanku”. Trivedi’s last appearance was in the Gujarati film ‘Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya’ (1998) in which he played the role of “Dadaji”.
Politics
After the success of Ramayan, Trivedi was inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party and in 1991, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Sabarkantha constituency of Gujarat on a BJP ticket, where he served as a Member of Parliament from 1991 to 1996. .
Death
After prolonged age-related illnesses, he died of a heart attack followed by multiple organ failure on 5 October 2021 in Mumbai.

- Before Ramayana, Trivedi had done many Gujarati films and some Hindi films.
- Arvind was inspired to pursue a career in acting by his elder brother, Upendra Trivedi, a brilliant Gujarati actor.
- Arvind’s elder brother, Upendra, was also a politician and contested elections in 1985 and 1990, but unlike Arvind who contested on a BJP ticket, he contested the elections on a Congress ticket.
- Arvind gained fame for playing the role of Ravana in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, along with other characters in the serial, such as Ram, Lakshman and Sita played by Arun Govil, Sunil Lahiri and Deepika Chikhlia respectively.
- Actually, Arvind had gone to audition for the role of Kevat (sailor) in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana and was eventually selected for the role of Ravana. While disclosing this during an interview he said,
I had gone to audition for the role of a boatman. When Ramanand Sagar handed me a script, I was the last person to be called for the audition. After reading the script, I had barely walked a few steps when Ramanand Sagar said: I have found my Lankesh.
- In general perception, Ravana’s character is considered negative, but it is not so for Arvind; Because he has always received due respect for playing the character of Ravana. He says,
Whenever I go to any event or program, I see how much people like Ravana. He has a sacred respect for character. In fact, Ravana is considered to be a supreme intellectual who was a person who followed morality and principles.
- Ravana is the only antagonist role that Aravind played in his acting career; He played mostly positive roles in his films and television serials.
- After Ramayana, Arvind started being recognized mostly as Ravana in his area. Talking about this in an interview he said,
After Ramayana, I was no longer Arvind Trivedi, but had become Lankesh for the people. Even my children were called the children of Ravana and my wife was recognized as Mandodari (Ravana’s wife). The day Ravana was killed, people in my locality mourned.”
- In 2002, when Vijay Anand (the then Chairman of the CBFC) tendered his resignation, Arvind Trivedi was appointed as the acting Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
- After retiring from acting, Arvind started doing social work with many social organizations.
- Sunil Lahiri, who played the role of Lakshman in Ramayana, was very close to Arvind Trivedi.
- The year 2020 took him down memory lane when Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was re-telecasted on Doordarshan in March after almost 32 years of its original telecast during the 80s. This serial was relaunched when the nationwide lockdown was imposed amid the outbreak of Corona epidemic.
