Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals he had a pacemaker after 3 open heart surgeries

Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that his heart needs a little help pumping. He recently had a pacemaker inserted.

In your newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, the 76-year-old actor revealed his recent pacemaker surgery. He also spoke about the importance of openly sharing his medical experiences.

“Last Monday I had surgery to make me a little more of a machine: they gave me a pacemaker,” Schwarzenegger wrote, calling his terminator days.

“I have to tell you that just saying this to all of you goes against a lot of my upbringing in Austria, where no one ever talked about medical issues. “Everything related to healthcare you kept to yourself.”

Arnold continued, “So, since I know that going against my secretive instincts and being transparent helps people, what choice do I have?”

“First of all, I want you to know that I’m doing very well,” Schwarzenegger assured his fans. “I had surgery on Monday. On Friday I was already at a big environmental event with my friend and fellow fitness advocate Jane Fonda.”

“By the way, when we talk about exercise being the only magic pill to slow aging, look at Jane. She is 10 years older than me and this year she will be 87.”

Schwarzenegger also thanked his medical team for their incredible care during the surgery, making it as painless as possible. “No one would have ever thought I started the week with surgery,” he wrote.

Arnold Schwarzenegger noted that doctors encouraged him to get a pacemaker “because scar tissue from my previous surgery had caused my heartbeat to be irregular.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger underwent surgery several times until he received a pacemaker.

In 1997, Arnold underwent open-heart surgery to replace a defective congenital aortic valve. Later, in 2018, she underwent another open-heart surgery to replace a pulmonary valve.

The surgery did not go as expected. Initially planned as a non-invasive procedure, the doctor inadvertently punctured the heart wall, requiring immediate open-heart surgery to save Arnold’s life.

Having previously undergone valve replacement surgery, Schwarzenegger underwent a second operation four years ago. This time, it was a non-invasive transcatheter valve replacement.

However, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s multiple surgeries and new pacemaker don’t mean he’s slowing down anytime soon. The actor assured his fans that he will return to film the second season of his Netflix show FUBAR the next month after his recovery.
