Andy Jackson Wikipedia, Poet, Disabled, Books, Poems – Poems on Disquiet Hill this Friday will feature readings by poet Andy Jackson of Castlemaine, who just received the ALS Gold Medal and Prize The Prime Minister’s Literature (Poetry) for his latest book, Human watching. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate the poetry of one of Australia’s finest poets.

In Jackson’s Human Face, the poet famously lives with Marfan syndrome, which includes severe spinal deformities, and his poems speak to the voices of people commonly perceived as “others” or aliens, offering groundbreaking insight into the disability experience.

According to the local poet, most of the poetry in the book was written while he was finishing his doctorate. According to Jackson, I published the book online in late 2021 and am very happy to receive the ALS Gold Medal in July 2022, this medal does not come with a monetary prize but comes with lots of compliments praise.

In 2022 the book was also nominated for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award, and on top of that, I received the Premier’s Literary Award, which is amazing.

People stopped me in the street to congratulate me, and that reaction was incredibly moving,” he said.

Jackson claims that he first became passionate about poetry in his mid-20s. He attended reading sessions and events in Melbourne to share and expand on his work before continuing his education to hone his skills.

The local poet expressed his delight at being recognized for his work in such an illustrious company. It’s great to finally have the opportunity to share your work (post-COVID) in public through readings in your community and elsewhere. Friday’s event and my participation in the upcoming Newcastle Writers Festival with an online presence is something I’m really looking forward to,” he said.

Jackson expressed gratitude for the latest award, saying it will allow him to “breathe” and focus on his work.

“I am especially passionate about supporting young and emerging poets as they find their voice,” he said. Jackson added that he was delighted by the efforts that had been made to establish an Australian “poet laureate”.

It’s great to see this initiative being promoted by the Writers Guild of Australia, a new literary funding body, taking on the process. Rather than a more formal approach, I would really like to see this approach focused on the community,” he noted.

Jackson will perform a 20-minute reading Friday night, followed by audience Q&A and encore. The event will start at exactly 18:00 and end at 19:00

Every first Friday of the month, Poetry on Thrilling Hill showcases poets from Melbourne, rural Victoria, interstate and beyond at Castlemaine Unification Church Chapel, off Lyttleton Street. Boom Town Wine offers each customer a complimentary glass of wine. The poet was compensated with a gift of $5.

Andy Jackson song

Bad-blooded, stunted, crippled, out of place – it’s strange how small the mind can be, and I’m incomparable, just short because the so-called normal people are taller. You should just pass, but no. Have you ever thought how bulky you look because of this

height? When I walk or shop, I seem to be inspired. It’s wonderful to see you appear, you say, imagining the awakening in my body, the courage that you don’t need to kill yourself, what. How do you live with that? That’s me wondering, distractedly eating a sandwich (wow!)

In my house, I made it to face the cabinets and the oven, which we all want. I sleep in my own bed (sometimes alone). At work, my cabinets are longer and wider than yours. Yes, this is not a song – but it was never meant for you.
